To commemorate what would have been Farley Mowat's 100th birthday on May 12, 2021, the Port Hope Rotary Club has inspired the proclamation of May 10 - 16 as Farley Mowat Week, and invites the community to honour Farley with these themed activities. A Farley Mowat Writing ContestOpen to residents of Port Hope and also to those living in Arviat, Nunavut. Three divisions will be considered: students in grades K to 8, students in grades 9 to 12 and an adult category. $100 prizes for the winning entry in each division in each community. To participate, send your Arctic-themed poem, short story or essay to Furby House Books (by email or mail: 65 Walton St, Port Hope, ON L1A 1N2) by May 1st. St. Mark's, with Farley's wife Claire, have assembled five readers to deliver excerpts from some of his most telling tales. Readings to take place Wednesday, May 12, 7:30 – 8:30 p.m via zoom.
