42nd Annual Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny event is taking place Saturday April 13, 2024.
Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny is a race along the Ganaraska River to commemorate the 1980 flood that devastated Port Hope’s downtown area. It celebrates the community spirit and resilience that rose in the face of this natural disaster. Now, Ganny Weekend is a whole vibe in Port Hope as we celebrate the arrival of the spring season!
Please note that the Sylvan Glen Bridge is under construction. As a result, there will be no Crazy Craft category for 2024. Participants can try the new Inflatable category, a short river run from Optimist Park offering bitesize adventure with bigtime fun. Or venture the full 16km route in a canoe or kayak, launching from Canton.
For 2024, there are three official categories: canoe, kayak and inflatable. All participants are reminded to carefully review safety and registration information to prepare accordingly for the smooth launch of your vessel and safe voyage on the fast and chilly waters of the Ganaraska. www.floatyourfanny.ca
Itinerary:
10am - canoes/kayaks (starting at Canton)
12pm - inflatables (starting at Optimist Park)
10am - 3pm - Fannyville amenities
Canoes, kayaks, and the new inflatables will complete the journey at the finish line in Fannyville (Cavan St Park). Fannyville, the event village, offers family-focused entertainment and activities, as well as the chance to watch the participants float over the last rapids section of the course with live commentary.
Spectators will be able to enjoy food from one of the many vendors along the banks, or take a short walk to shopping, restaurants, or bars. Participants and spectators are asked to support each other to ensure all involved have a safe and enjoyable experience. Please no throwing of water balloons or objects into the river or at participants. With large crowds in Fannyville along the banks of the Ganaraska River, spectators are encouraged to leave their pets at home.
Please note, in the event of ice on the river, the event will be postponed to April 20, 2024.
