This day is also a time to celebrate the unique perspectives and talents that people with autism bring to their communities; and
Whereas autism is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition that influences how a person communicates, interacts, processes information, and experiences the world around them; and autism exists across all cultures, ethnicities, races, and gender identities; and
Whereas autism is not an illness, not caused by vaccines or parenting, and does not go away in adulthood; and it is essential that our community fosters understanding, reduces stigma, and promotes acceptance of autistic people across their lifespan; and
Whereas our municipality is committed to building an equitable and inclusive community which includes embracing neurodiversity, respecting the identities of autistic people, and ensuring that autistic residents of all ages have opportunities to participate fully in civic, social, educational, and economic life;
Now, Therefore, I Olena Hankivsky, Mayor of the Municipality of Port Hope do hereby proclaim April 2nd 2026 as World Autism Acceptance Day in the Municipality of Port Hope.
