Community Living Month, May 2026
Whereas, Community Living Ontario works with 124 local agencies including Community Living & Respite Northumberland to support people with intellectual disabilities to live, work, and participate fully in their communities with dignity, respect, and choice; and
Whereas, Community Living Month is recognized each May to celebrate inclusion, raise awareness, and acknowledge the contributions and achievements of people with intellectual disabilities, their families, caregivers, staff, and volunteers; and
Whereas, inclusive communities are built on acceptance, understanding, and the belief that everyone belongs and has value; and
Whereas, the Shine a Light on Community Living initiative encourages municipalities and community partners to demonstrate their commitment to inclusion by illuminating landmarks in blue and green, the official colours of Community Living; and
Whereas, lighting up municipal spaces helps raise public awareness and shows visible support for people with intellectual disabilities and the organizations that serve them;
Now, Therefore, I Olena Hankivsky, Mayor of the Municipality of Port Hope do hereby proclaim the month of May 2026 as Community Living Month in the Municipality of Port Hope.
Be it Further Resolved that the Municipality of Port Hope recognizes May 1st as Shine a Light on Community Living Day and will illuminate Town Hall in blue and green in support of inclusion, belonging, and community for all.
