WhereasSeptember of each year is recognized across Canada as Hunger Action Month by Food Banks Canada, its provincial food bank associations, community food banks and local food assistance programs; and

Whereas September of each year is recognized across Canada as Hunger Action Month by Food Banks Canada, its provincial food bank associations, community food banks and local food assistance programs; and

Whereas addressing the household food security needs of children, youth, adults, and families today is fundamental to the future of the Municipality; and

Whereas the need for comprehensive coordinated emergency food programs places upon our community a critical responsibility; and

Whereas Hunger Action Month is a time when we recognize the work being done at local food banks, school nutrition programs, community meal and hunger relief programs; and

Whereas Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank, as an accredited member of Food Banks Canada and a direct member of Feed Ontario, currently operates in Cobourg and Port Hope and provides additional outreach support across Northumberland County; and 

Whereas Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank, originally registered as a Canadian Charity in Roseneath Ontario 40 years ago, has continued its ongoing support within the community and remains today generally known as operating as "Fare Share" with its paper bag logo and website www.fareshare.ca;

Now, Therefore, I Olena Hankivsky, Mayor of the Municipality of Port Hope do hereby proclaim the month of September 2026 as Hunger Action Month in the Municipality of Port Hope and;

Further, that the Municipality of Port Hope hereby recognizes Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank (operating in Cobourg and Port Hope) for providing valued community service for 40 years.
